Taller - Voz, cuerpo y emoción

A workshop that will help us in our development for those who want to sing. A practice that many love and that does not have to be only professional.

A workshop that teaches us how to improve posture, relaxation, awareness of the emotions that wake us up singing. Above all, learn to use them in a communicative project, so that learning to sing is just enjoyment.

As a singing student at the beginning, and as a teacher later, I observed in myself and in my students how the tension we bring to the body affects us when it comes to learning or improving our vocal technique and interpretation. Parallel to this physical tension are different emotions when singing, some of which, like fear, contribute to this tension that we talked about, but also, as we will see in the workshop, can serve as allies to address the interpretation from our favorite repertoire

The voice

The vocal technique must always be approached according to an expressive project. That is, the expression is the objective, and the technique will be our tool, and never the other way around. The danger of prioritizing the technique is to fall into interpretations empty of content, empty of emotion.

Singing is more natural and intuitive than what we have been taught, let’s start with our intuition, we will experiment with the voice, and we will see aspects of the technique carefully only when it is really necessary.

The emotions

The emotional aspect of learning in general, and singing in particular, in my experience, has been systematically underestimated both as a conditioning factor of difficulties when it comes to incorporating knowledge, and also when expressing ourselves through voice with freedom. I consider it necessary to be aware of what we feel in front of certain challenges of the vocal technique, to talk about it, to understand it. Only in this way can a more serene and rewarding learning experience be achieved.

On the other hand, the emotions that music awakens in us when we listen to it, the identification of them and their relationship with expressive musical resources, are indispensable tools to approach our goals as song interpreters.

The body

A healthy posture is fundamental for the development of vocal technique. If we have bad posture, there is tension in the neck, shoulders, back, and that makes the projection of the voice difficult, and it tends to make our breathing shallow and we can not support the air column correctly, which brings us, in the medium-long term, to pathologies of the voice. In addition to good posture we need to be relaxed, as much as possible.
